Ciro Manzo, PhD researcher at CNR-IAA (Istituto sull’Inquinamento Atmosferico, Italy), and Regional YES Network Team Leader will attend the IAPG session NH9.8 at EGU 2014. Ciro will give an interesting oral presentation titled "The importance of geoethics in the Land of Fires" (Tuesday, 29 Apr 2014 - Room: G6, 11:15–11:30). The so-called "Land of Fires", is an area in the Campania region (Southern Italy) affected by illegal wastes burning. This area "has recently experienced increasing deaths caused by cancer and other diseases that exceeds the Italian national average. The rise in cancer-related mortality is thought to be mainly caused by pollution from illegal waste disposal by the Camorra criminal organization (from wikipedia)".
Ciro writes in his abstract that he "wants to underline that geoethics is fundamental as much as the need of geologists participation to whole remediation processes and to raising environmental awareness in the society".
